Do you have some questions about renting a vehicle? The vehicle rental industry has some common issues that apply to just about any of the rental companies that may be available to you, but remember that each vehicle rental company likely has their own policy
regarding many of the more commonly asked questions relating to the renting of a vehicle. Some of those common questions include inquiries about one-way rental services, payment methods, and insurance coverage.

One-way vehicle rentals involve a scenario where the renter picks up a vehicle at a rental office in one city and drives it to another city with the intention of leaving the vehicle at a different rental office in a different city. This can cause some inventory problems with many vehicle rental companies, especially when each franchise office is privately owned. There are some companies that permit this, however, so it is important to do some research to find out which ones allow it. For some, it is allowed only under certain circumstances and timing may be an issue. For this reason it pays to plan ahead and book as early as possible.

Because many states require that you have liability insurance coverage in order to operate a vehicle, vehicle rental companies provide an opportunity for you to purchase insurance coverage during the rental period. If you have your own auto policy, however, you will not need to buy their coverage, and you can sign a waiver indicating that you did not need the coverage. You may have to show the rental agency some proof of your own insurance however. Make certain that you are clear on the process involved with reporting accidents and claims before you drive away.

Payment for a vehicle rental contract is usually done by credit card. The reason for this is that vehicle rental companies will, in most cases, require that you provide a valid credit card number for them to charge. They will often charge a deposit fee at the beginning of the rental period, which acts as a small insurance policy against damage. When you return the vehicle, an agent will inspect the vehicle for damage and if everything checks you the deposit will be returned to you.

Renting a vehicle may seem like a daunting process at first, but reputable vehicle rental companies often have great customer service programs in place that can answer any questions you may have. It pays to plan ahead and do your research. Remember that not all vehicle rental companies handle contracts the same way, and you may even find that a policy at one agency may vary from a policy at another agency within the same vehicle rental company.
